In 2003, Jim and Nancy Goodwin opened one of your favorite Manistee spots: Goody’s Juice and Java.

Rita Blamer bought the business 12 years ago.

Goody's“I’ve been in the ‘coffee business’ for 23 years,” Rita said. “I’ve owned 5 shops over my career. I met Jim Goodwin when I had a coffee shop in Grand Haven. When he and Nancy were ready to retire, they reached out to me.”

Buying Goody’s was the right move for Rita. She loves Manistee and knew she wanted to retire in a quieter area.

Last week, Rita set her retirement plans in motion. Goody’s was officially sold to Lana and Jeff Bearup.

“I hope they are able to expand the menu and services, are successful and have fun,” Rita said. “They are very social and kind people. They will do an amazing job!”

Lana and Jeff plan to do just that.

Their first order of business is expanding the menu. They hope to add more specialty items and tea options. Next Spring, they may add catering options and event hosting. These are just ideas…for now.

“We have gotten to know the community and talk with our fellow River Street businesses,” Lana and Jeff said. “We love the small town feel and friendly atmosphere. Goody’s will stay community orientated!”

The couple had been looking for a coffee shop in a smaller community for a couple of years. When they approached Rita, she knew they were the right people to keep Goody’s in the community. Lana and Jeff have summered in Frankfort of years – they feel Manistee will be the next destination town.

In 2023, Goody’s will celebrate 20 years in business! What will the next 20 years look like?

“The name will be staying the same,” Lana and Jeff said. “But there will be an amazing update to the logo.”

The future looks bright for all involved! Check back in the Spring to see all that Lana and Jeff have changed and added to the menu.
